Supportive, guided clinical training for the next generation of providers in maternal & infant mental health
Haven Counseling Program, housed within local nonprofit Haven Family Resource, is a community-based mental health clinic aiming to improve the mental health and well being of our local families. Specifically, we offer mental health support to gestational parents and families with children under the age of five. By supporting gestational parents during a vulnerable/transitional time we can intervene and prevent the bidirectional nature of postpartum depression and adverse childhood experiences.
Our mission is to ease the transition into parenthood and build the foundation for connected, resilient families. Our targeted transitional phases are during pregnancy, infancy, and early parenthood.
Our services focus on a diversity-informed, culturally responsive approach to supporting individuals and their families. We offer a holistic approach to healing. By improving mental health; addressing daily stressors, and enhancing the quality of caregiver relationships, we support the healthy development of children, their families and the community.
The goals of our program include:
Enhance sense of well-being
Improve coping skills and sense of self-efficacy
Reduces sense of overwhelm
Decrease feelings of isolation
Enrich family bonding and attachment
Clinical services include assessment, individual therapy, and weekly perinatal group therapy. The primary treatment modalities include; Interpersonal Psychotherapy IPT, Trauma-Informed, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Child Parent Psychotherapy. Our services are provided in our center as well as via telehealth. Our trained mental health practitioners partner with individuals to assess their unique needs in order to enhance their capacity to thrive during a transitional period of life.
In order to meet the unique needs of our clients and community at large, we use an integrated and evidence-based approach to tailor our mental health service delivery. We achieve this approach through collaboration and consultation with the families themselves, and with other community providers in areas such as; local lactation consultation, Obstetrics & Gynecologists, Cottage Health, local midwives, doulas, and more. Our onsite programs with our partner organizations also include evidence informed classes, support groups, massage therapy, yoga, lactation support, and more. The common thread through each of the onsite programs is the intentional focus on maternal and family mental health and wellness, along with a strong grounding in infant, child, and caregiver development.
